On the tenth day into the journeys of Ruby and Sapphire, a tall, slender girl of twelve years of age knocked on Professor Birch's front door. She tossed her long, silky purple hair as she waited for the door to open.

Finally, open it did. "Yes?" Birch inquired.

The girl wasted no time introducing herself. "I need your help. I have come from a future in which the world has been devastated by Teams Aqua and Magma and their awakening of the legendary Pokemon Kyogre and Groudon. I need a Pokemon from you, Professor, to aid me in my quest to stop this terrible event from happening!"

Birch stared down at the girl in wonder. Could what she said be true? Somehow he trusted her totally, despite having just met her. "All right, then. I've only got one Pokemon I can possibly give you; I did have two more, but I gave one to my daughter and one to the son of a friend of mine." He handed a Poke Ball to the girl. Through the clear top she could see a Treecko, and her bright lilac eyes lit up.

"Take this as well." Birch handed her a PokeDex. "Incidentally, what is your name?"

She smiled up at him. "My name is Amethyst!"

After receiving Treecko and the PokeDex, Amethyst left town and headed north.

I know what I need to do to stop the coming armageddon, she thought prettily to herself. And to do that, I must find two allies... Ruby and Sapphire. Amethyst was perfect, you see, and so knew everything, including the fact that, at the moment, Ruby was on a boat and Sapphire was riding on a Wailord, and the two would meet in Dewford Town. There was no time to lose!

"I choose you, Latiko!" Amethyst tossed the Poke Ball containing her very first Pokemon, which she would receive for her sixth birthday fourteen years from now. Time travel hurts my head, she complained to herself as she climbed onto her Pokemon.

"Full speed to Dewford Town!" she cried.

"Kyuu!" Latiko took off into the air and flew as quickly as she could, westward.

One hour later, in Dewford Town, Sapphire Birch was wandering around down by the docks. I can only fight Brawly tonight....

At the same time, Ruby was deboarding Mr. Briney's ship. "Ugh..." he moaned. "I hate being seasick...."

The two trainers saw each other and gasped in unison. "It's you!"

"You two!" another voice exclaimed. Ruby, Sapphire, and Mr. Briney looked up and saw the most beautiful girl any of them would ever see, riding side-saddle on a Latias. She jumped to the ground and landed perfectly, then recalled her Pokemon. She stared at those before her with glittering violet orbs set in a cutely heart-shaped face framed by silken sparkling violaceous hair which reached about halfway down her back. She was wearing distinctly futuristic clothing: what looked to be a green scarf tied around her ample bosom, leaving the rest of her torso exposed; greenish-blue bell-bottoms with purple fringe; white bracelets around her wrists and ankles which somehow floated there without touching any part of her body; and white slip-on flats. No one knew why this seemed futuristic; it just did.

Ruby stared in rapt awe at the beauty. His body was reacting as it never had before... at least, not to a female. His face turned bright red. Blood began to drip from his nose, and somehow, despite his penchant for cleanliness, he didn't notice. His palms grew sweaty, and he became at a loss for words, the way all men stereotypically do when confronted with a stunning woman.

Sapphire stared, half in jealousy of the girl's beauty and half in absolute admiration. She was feeling a strange attraction to this girl; an attraction of the sort which she had hereto only felt for boys. Sapphire began to blush, and her face took on a dreamy quality.

Mr. Briney had his first erection in twenty-four years.

"My name is Amethyst," said the girl. "And you are Ruby and Sapphire, I presume?"

Ruby nodded, slack-jawed. Sapphire turned her head demurely and replied, "Y-yes."

"I've come to ask for your help," said Amethyst. "I am from the future, you see, and I want to save the future from the devastation of Kyogre and Groudon. For that I need the help of you two. Will you aid my quest?"

Ruby nodded again. "Whatever you say..."

Sapphire's eyes widened. She maidenly covered her mouth with her hand and answered, "Oh, my! I would be more than willing!"

Amethyst smiled. "Oh, good! Then let's be off!"

"Hold on," said Briney, somehow coming to his senses. "Ruby, what about your own journey?"

"My own wha?"

"To win all the Contests in eighty days!"

Ruby glared at Briney. "I think saving the world is just a little more important, don't you?"

"Yeah!" Sapphire turned to Ruby. "We can postpone our challenge until this is done. Ten days have passed, right?"

"Right. Amethyst..." Ruby took the hyacinth-tressed girl's hand. "I will stake my own life to assist thee!"

Up until that moment, Sapphire had been more than willing to help Amethyst. But now a bitter emotion was brewing in the wild girl's chest.

"Okay," said Amethyst. "In order to stop this destruction I must go first to Petalburg City, then back to my own time." Flashing her most alluring smile at Mr. Briney, she requested, "Would you be so kind as to take us to Petalburg, sir?"

Briney turned as red and goofy as Ruby. "It'd be my pleasure!"

The four boarded the boat, blissfully unaware that somebody was watching them....

Mr. Briney chipperly steered the S.S. Tidal toward Petalburg, whistling an old seafarer's tune as he did so. Ruby was leaning over the port side railing, throwing up into the sea; Sapphire took that opportunity to have a little "chat" with Amethyst on the starboard side.

"Look, you," she said. "I know what you're up to!"

"Me?" Amethyst was somehow oblivious, despite her perfect omniscience.

"Yes, you! You're trying to steal Ruby away from me!"

Amethyst gasped. "Steal Ruby? I am not! Look here -- he doesn't seem to like you that way, and besides, I haven't even done anything!"

"Liar!" Sapphire leaped at Amethyst and started to push her over the railing. Amethyst screamed, and suddenly Sapphire was off her and Ruby was standing there.

"Amethyst!" He took her in his arms and gently stroked her soft orchid-coloured hair. "Are you all right?"

"I-- I--" Glistening teardrops fell from her violet jewels of eyes. "Oh, Ruby!"

Still holding Amethyst, Ruby sent out his Mudkip. "Zuzu, teach Sapphire a lesson!"

"But you hate battles!" Sapphire protested, backing away.

"I can make an exception!"

"No!" Amethyst cried. "No, Ruby, don't hurt her. She won't do it again."

And indeed, Sapphire wouldn't do it again. She resigned herself to the fact that Ruby would be with Amethyst, forevermore.

Next chapter preview: There's trouble for Amethyst and her sidekicks in Petalburg City! Someone else falls for our time-travelling hero, forgetting a very important vow he once made! And what will transpire between Ruby and Norman? All that and more in Round 2!
