Pokemon Special: Amethyst Version (part 4)
Round 4: Versus Green
Pairings: Ruby/Amethyst, one-sided Sapphire/Ruby, one-sided Sapphire/Amethyst
Disclaimer: I don't own the song "White Destiny." Oh, or Pokemon Special.

Round 4: Versus Green

Amethyst, Ruby, and Sapphire made it through the nonexistant Viridian Forest and came to Diglett Cave. Amethyst had Kimoko use Cut to cut down the tree which blocked its entrance, and in doing so her Pokemon evolved into Grovyle!

"Oh, wow!" Amethyst glomped onto Kimoko and exclaimed, "You're so powerful, I can't believe you evolved so quickly." Then she noticed Ruby glaring annoyedly at the Grovyle, and hugged him too.

Sapphire sighed as the trio started into the cave. It had been two days and nights since she'd vowed to admit her feelings toward... whoever... and yet, somehow, she'd never gotten around to it. I'm such a coward, she berated herself. I should just come right out and say it: Ruby, I love you! At this she tilted her head quizzically and amended, No, I mean Amethyst. No, wait, I mean... "Argh!!"

Walking hand-in-hand several feet ahead of her, Amethyst and Ruby turned to face her. "What's wrong?" Amethyst wondered cutely. They continued to walk, facing backward.

"N-nothing." Sapphire's face was hot and bright red, but it wasn't evident in the dark cave they were traveling through. Say it! "Amethyst, there's something I--"

Suddenly, the floor went out under Ruby's feet. Screaming, the boy fell down a dark pit but was saved by Amethyst, still holding his hand. She was pulled to the ground by his sudden drop; still clutching his hand, the hyacinth-haired girl cried out, "Ruby!"

Ruby grasped Amethyst's arm with both of his hands, but was slipping. "Ame-- waah!" They lost their grip on each other, and Ruby went plummetting down into the depths of the pit.

"Ruby!" Sapphire cried. She leaped after him and managed to grab his hand, but the two continued falling. They could hear Amethyst's despairing voice calling after them, and then all sensation was gone.

Amethyst paced back and forth beside the pit, fretting. What do I do? What do I do? How am I supposed to save them? What if they're already dead?! "Ruby..." Her ultraviolet eyes cast about the cave to see if anything there could help her, and fell upon a yellow messenger bag.

Amethyst ran over to the bag and noticed a Stone Badge placed upon it. "This is Sapphire's bag!" she realised. She opened it up and found, on top of everything else, a long rope. This must be what Sapphire uses to climb things.... Suddenly, a plan was forming itself in Amethyst's mind.

She slung the bag over her shoulder and tied one end of the rope around her thin waist. The other end she tied to a rough stone which just happened to be jutting out of the floor near the pit. She used the knotting technique she had learned years ago in the Eevee Scouts, said to be practically untieable. Then, she proceeded to rappel down the walls of the pit.

After several minutes, Amethyst came to a roundish room dimly lit by torches set in holders placed on the walls. She looked around, but there was no sign of Ruby or Sapphire, or even a way out save the vertical tunnel she had just come down through. Untying the untieable rope around her perfectly-proportioned waist, she walked over to a wall and tapped on it.

It's thin, she realised, maybe only about a couple of inches thick. This room must be man-made! She walked along the wall, feeling for any irregularities that might be the sign of a hidden door, and found nothing. Finally, she tried pulling on the torch holders like she'd seen in movies. Still no results.

"But this is the only place the fall could have led to," she protested aloud. "Where could they have gone?"

There was laughter echoing all around her, and a trapdoor in the ceiling opened up. A stage descended, and on that stage were a brown-haired woman about the age of Amethyst's parents, and a small, round, pink Pokemon.

"A-Auntie Green!" Amethyst exclaimed. "And Jigglypuff! What are you doing here? Do you know where Ruby and Sapphire are?"

Green laughed in a distinctly unsettling manner, though that effect may have been caused by the size and nature of the room. "If you want to find them," she said, "you will have to defeat my Jigglypuff!"

Amethyst bent her knees slightly and went into a generic "It's time for a Pokemon battle!" pose, taking Eiko's Poke Ball from somewhere. "No problem," she shot back.

"Oh, no no no, not a Pokemon battle." Green waved her hand in negation. "You have to beat my Jigglypuff in a singing contest!"

"A... singing contest?"

Green nodded. "Only then may you pass this stage and find your friends."

"Since when did you turn evil, Auntie Green?" the stunningly beautiful tween demanded. "You know I'm on a mission to save the world, and I need their help to do it! Besides, Ruby is my boyfriend!"

Green sighed. "These ancient ruins have lain undisturbed for centuries, Amethyst. There's some unwritten law that none may pass this room without winning a challenge of some sort, so I've decided to give you a challenge you can easily surpass. Got it?"

"I still don't..." Amethyst sighed. She was willing to bet there was some sort of story behind this, but she couldn't afford to waste time. Ruby could be in trouble! "All right, I got it."

"Here we go!" Green leaped off the stage and a spotlight focused from somewhere onto Jigglypuff. The older woman tossed a microphone to her Pokemon, and it began to sing its trademark song. Amethyst wasn't affected in the least, but Green had to pull out a canteen of coffee to stay awake.

"Now wasn't that lovely?" Green said once Jigglypuff had finished. "Now it's your turn, Amethyst!"

Amethyst got up on stage and took the microphone from Jigglypuff. From out of nowhere came background music. She took a deep breath, and began to sing.

Hateshinai mirai hirogaru kono sora,
Atarashii jibun ni umare kawaru.
Sekaijuu shiawase no yuki wo furasete miseru yo!

In this sky which opens up into the endless future,
I am reborn into a new self.
All over the world, I'll make it snow a snow of happiness!

Unmei wa tsukamu mono, kono te jiyuu ni nobaseba ii?
Kimerareta ashita wa nai.
Damatteite mo wakaru; ano hi, deai wa guuzen ja nai!
To'oi hitomi ni eien kanjita.

Is it all right to reach out for that which captures destiny?
There's no such thing as a preordained future.
Even if I say nothing you'll see; our meeting on that day was no chance!
I could feel eternity in your far-away eyes.

Kureteyuku yuuhi ga kirei; tsumetai kaze ga hikareba,
Anata no koe sotto kikoeteru.

The evening you gave to me was beautiful; if the cold wind shines,
Then I can hear your voice.

Kokoro no naka hitori ja nai koto,
Itai hodo kono mune wo atsuku suru!
Hajimaru ne shinjiru koto kara kono kimochi ikiru akashi;
Hateshinai mirai hirogaru kono sora,
Atarashii jibun ni umare kawaru.
Sekaijuu shiawase no yuki wo furasete miseru yo, sono te tsunaide!

The fact that I'm not alone in my heart
Heats my chest until it hurts!
My belief begins; there's proof that my feelings live;
In this sky which opens up into the endless future,
I am reborn into a new self.
All over the world, I'll make it snow a snow of happiness, holding your hand!

As Amethyst sang, an irridescent, beautiful violet glow began to surround her. Her eyes were closed as her voice came out wonderfully, and she didn't seem to notice that she was shining, or that her voice was echoing eerily, yet prettily, in a way that was impossible given the acoustics of her location. Green's eyes widened, and Jigglypuff stared jealously.

Mizu ni yureru hanabira haruka tsuki wo oikaketeku,
Miteta yume yori to'oku e.
Iya na koto ga aru tabi, hitori aoi sora wo nagameru,
Yowai jibun ni maketakunai kara!

The flower petal wavering in the water chases the far-off moon
Father than the dream I dreamt.
On this painful journey, I gaze alone at the blue sky,
Because I don't want to lose to my weak self!

Sagashiteita atatakai ai no basho mo mirai mo,
Ki ga tsukeba, mune no naka ni aru!

If you pay attention, the place of the warm love, and the future,
Both of which you have sought, are right there within your heart!

Tatta hitotsu moshi dekiru koto ga
Aru naraba, mayowazu ni kanaetai.
Yuki no you ni, kirei na kokoro wa
Dare ni de mo furitsumoru.
Tomadou kedo koukai wa shinai;
Tsuretette, issho nara, kowakunai!
Te ni furete nemutteta watashi, ima me wo samasu!

If there is only one thing I can do,
I want to do it without getting side-tracked.
Like the snow, my beautiful heart
Lies thicker than anyone.
I'm bewildered, but I don't regret a thing;
You lead me, so if we're together, I'm not scared!
The "me" I perceive sleeping within my hands will now open her eyes!

Kokoro no naka hitori ja nai koto,
Itai hodo kono mune wo atsuku suru!
Hajimaru ne shinjiru koto kara kono kimochi ikiru akashi;

My belief begins; there's proof that my feelings live;
In this sky which opens up into the endless future,
I am reborn into a new self.
All over the world, I'll make it snow a snow of happiness, holding your hand!

Amethyst opened her eyes and blinked as her song ended and the glow around her subsided. "H-how was that?" she asked in a shaky voice. "I don't think it was very good." She sighed. "Even if I can't pass here, please make sure Ruby is all right..."

Green stared in amazement. Recalling her furiously envious Jigglypuff, she said, "Amethyst, you're much too modest! That was the greatest thing I've heard in a very long time! You're the most talented singer in the world!"

Amethyst flushed a faint pink. "R-really? You really think so, Auntie Green?"

"Of course I do!" Green clapped her hands, and a hole in the floor opened up. "Through there is where you will find your friends. Good luck in saving the world!"

Amethyst climbed down from the stage and hopped down through the hole. It was a short jump, and she found herself in a tunnel sloping gently upward. At the end of the tunnel she could see daylight; lying there on the ground before her were Ruby and Sapphire, both unconscious.

Amethyst smiled and sat down cross-legged by Ruby. I'll wait for them to wake up....

Next chapter preview! Finally, finally, we learn the identity of the one pursuing Amethyst, Ruby, and Sapphire across time! Who is he? What does he want with them? Find out in Round 5!
